A guide for individuals upgrading their Security Clearance.
Unlock Broader Defence Opportunities with an Australian Government Security Clearance.
A clearance is more than an administrative requirement — it is a gateway to opportunity!
Did you know?
The Government operating environment is changing. Increasingly, contracts now mandate that any hardware or software-related work.
This shift is no longer limited to Defence alone. Where work involves sensitive systems, protected information, or personal and medical-in-confidence data, an NV1 clearance is rapidly becoming the standard requirement.
This includes work associated with:
- Department of Defence
- Australian Taxation Office (ATO)
- Services Australia
- NDIS and other agencies managing personal or health-related data.
In practical terms, even roles that were historically considered "non-sensitive" are now falling within clearance-required environments.
An Australian Security Clearance is more than an administrative requirement — it is a gateway. It opens access to a broader range of meaningful, high-impact roles, positions and opportunities that are otherwise simply not available. For many people, this is the step that transforms what's possible in their career.
NV1 Security Clearance level is recommended
We encourage you to consider obtaining a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) Security Clearance as a minimum. It is the most commonly requested clearance level by the Australian Government and Defence. This is the best investment in your future within the Defence and national security space.
The best time to start is now
The Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) currently advises an average processing timeframe of approximately 75 business days for NV1 clearances. Beginning early ensures you are ready when the right opportunity arises — rather than watching it pass by while clearance is pending.
